  1. Larry is another example of a young person who uses technology outside of school for videos, gaming, and social media primarily, and for research and testing in school. There is such a huge disconnect. This class has really opened my eyes to this, and I hope to make some adjustments this year because of it.

There are some educational game websites, and quite often the kids in my classes go to them when they finish other assignments on the computer, but that type of activity is not really encouraged by the administration, even though, as we’ve seen, there is a great deal of value in it, educationally and socially.

Larry’s skill with video editing is very impressive. I’ve watched my own kids do this on our computer. They learn by watching other videos that instruct them, which is interesting! YouTube could be such a great resource for teachers, if we could use it.

That’s wonderful that you’re planning to teach your young students how to use computers, and will have them in the lab regularly. They will love that! and it will give them a definite head start with technology.

  2. Larry seems to use technology a little less than most teenagers, but seems to be embedded in social media like most teens. You made great connections to the readings and this looks like an awesome rough draft.

  3. Kristi, I found it very interesting that you talked about Larry's use of ATVs and his love for the outdoors, and it made me wonder about the connection between not having internet at one parent's house and his interests not being mainly technology. He seems to have a good understanding of technology even though his main interest is the outdoors.
